What is First Aid?

First Aid is providing the initial response, life support and management of casualty(s), to an incident and to other first aiders until the arrival of medical assistance.

This first aid course, Apply First Aid, will provide you with the skills and knowledge that may be applied in a range of situations within the home, community and workplace.

First Aid Course Content

The course is comprised of four (4) elements:

  • Assess the situation (e.g. assess casualty and identify injuries, illnesses and conditions)
  • Apply first aid procedures (e.g. use available resources and equipment to make the casualty as comfortable as possible)
  • Communicate details of the incident (e.g. request ambulance support and/or appropriate medical assistance according to relevant circumstances using relevant communication media and equipment)
  • Evaluate own performance (e.g.participate in debriefing/evaluation as appropriate to improve future response and address individual needs)

Participants will be required to demonstrate essential knowledge and skills necessary to effectively perform all tasks outlined in these elements.

A statement of attainment will be issued within five working days of successfully completing the course. The Statement of Attainment is valid for three years for the first aid and twelve  months for the CPR component. First Aid and CPR refresher courses available.
