Security Guard / Crowd Controller / Bodyguard License Course

Any person wishing to gain employment within the security industry in Queensland must hold a Security  License issued by the Office of Fair Trading. This license comprises three functions:
  • Security officer unarmed
  • Crowd controller
  • Bodyguard

To obtain the security officer unarmed license you must have first completed an approved training course. Certificate II in Security Operations will enable you to apply for this license. The units required to be completed for this course are:

  • CPPSEC2001A - Communicate effectively in the security industry
  • CPPSEC2002A - Follow workplace safety procedures in the security industry
  • CPPSEC2003A - Work effectively in the security industry
  • CPPSEC2004A - Respond to security risk situation
  • CPPSEC2005A - Work as part of a security team
  • CPPSEC2006A - Provide security services to clients
  • CPPSEC2009A - Give evidence in court
  • CPPSEC2011A - Control access to and exit from premises
  • CPPSEC2012A - Monitor and control individual and crowd behaviour
  • CPPSEC2014A - Operate basic security equipment
  • CPPSEC2015A - Patrol premises
  • CPPSEC2017A - Protect self and others using basic defence tactics
  • HLTFA301B - Apply first aid

In addition to this, to obtain the crowd controller and bodyguard license you must also complete an additional five units from Certificate III in Security Operations. The additional units required to be completed for this course are:

  • CPPSEC3002A - Manage Conflict Through Negotiation
  • CPPSEC3003A - Determine Response to Security Risk Situation
  • CPPSEC3007A - Maintain Security of Environment
  • CPPSEC3013A - Control Persons Using Empty Hand Techniques
  • CPPSEC3018A - Provide for the Safety of Persons at Risk.

All units listed above are included in our Security Guard / Crowd Controller course.

Please note: if you are performing crowd control duties in a licensed venue, you will be required to have completed a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course. For more information or to enrol in the RSA Course, click here.

Course Delivery Method

Face-to-face four (4) day course: This course is conducted fortnightly, Monday to Thursday commencing at 8.30am and runs for approximately seven (7) hours each day. The training is delivered by instructors with 'real life' experience in the security industry. We recommend that people without prior industry experience participate in this course.

Flexible delivery one (1) day attendance required: This course is conducted fortnightly on Saturday commencing at 8.30am and runs for approximately seven (7) hours. This option allows participants to complete their workbooks at home, self-paced, prior to course commencement. The training covers revision of the law, practical components and role plays. This course is designed for persons who have had prior experience in security, policing, corrections or the military.

If you do not hold a current First Aid Certificate, we conduct the first aid course fortnightly on Sunday (the same weekend as the flexible delivery course) commencing at 8.30am and runs for approximately eight (8) hours. The cost of this course is $100.00 when booked with your security course. Please contact our office for group and onsite bookings
