Control Traffic with Stop Slow Bat - RIIWHS205D


A traffic controller is a person accredited under the Traffic Controller Accreditation Scheme authorised by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to control traffic with a stop/slow bat at:

  • Road worksites where a road closure or part road closure is necessary, or
  • Other events on the road where a road closure or part road closure is necessary, or
  • Other circumstances where traffic control is required on a roadway.

TMR Requirements:

To become an accredited Traffic Controller in Queensland you are required to successfully complete an approved traffic controller training course delivered by a TMR approved training provider and meet the following criteria:

It is also a pre-requisite for a Traffic Controller working on a construction site (e.g. a roadway) to hold a White Card / Blue Card (Construction Safety Induction Card). To find out more or to enrol, click here.

Participants MUST have the following before attending the eight hour theoretical training day to enable them to complete the 20hr vocational placement:

  • Appropriate attire and enclosed footwear for this course
  • Hold White Card / Blue Card (Construction Safety Induction Card)
  • Class 1 steel cap safety boots
  • Long work pants
  • Have own transport or available transport, to enable participants to travel to complete the 20hr vocational placement.  Public transport is not always available for early start times.

Course Content

The course is comprised of four (4) elements:

  • Plan and prepare
  • Control traffic
  • Operate communication devices
  • Clean up

Course Delivery Method

Part One - Face-to-face theory one (1) day:  Both a theoretical and a simulated practical component.This course is conducted every second Monday. To enquire about course dates please visit our website at www.prosystem.com.au or call the office on 07 3852 2522.

Part Two - Industry placement at roadwork site. Participants must complete a minimum of 20 hours of practical experience at a roadwork site under the direct supervision of an experienced accredited traffic controller. (Assessment outside a forty kilometre range of Brisbane CBD will incur a travel fee)

For Individuals wanting to gain a traffic controller's licence: The cost of this course includes eight (8) hour course, supply of personal protective equipment (PPE), placement with a traffic control company to complete the mandatory twenty (20) hour logbook and on-the-job assessment $595.00. (No hidden costs)

For employers wanting their staff to gain a traffic controller's licence: The cost of this course includes eight (8) hour course and on-the-job assessment after logbook completion. The employer is to organise placement  to complete the mandatory twenty (20) hour logbook and must supply a copy of WorkCover certificate of currency and copy of Public Liability certificate $445.00.
