Diploma of Work Health and Safety BSB51315


This qualification is suitable for people who coordinate and maintain the work health and safety (WHS) program in an organisation. It reflects the role of practitioners who apply a substantial knowledge base and well-developed skills in a wide variety of WHS contexts.

Pre Requisites

All core units in BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent competencies.

Equivalent competencies are predecessors to the following units which have been mapped as equivalent:

  • BSBWHS402   Assist with compliance with WHS laws
  • BSBWHS403   Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes
  • BSBWHS404   Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
  • BSBWHS405   Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems
  • BSBWHS406   Assist with responding to incidents

Course Content - This course comprises of five (5) core units and four (4) elective units:

  • BSBWHS502   Manage effective WHS consultation and participation processes
  • BSBWHS503   Contribute to the systematic management of WHS risk
  • BSBWHS504   Manage WHS risks
  • BSBWHS505   Investigate WHS incidents
  • BSBWHS506   Contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining WHS management systems
  • BSBMGT502    Manage people performance
  • BSBWHS410   Contribute to work-related health and safety measures and initiatives
  • BSBWHS509   Facilitate the development and use of risk management tools
  • BSBWHS510   Contribute to implementing emergency procedures

The Diploma of Work Health and Safety will provide the participant with the knowledge and skills to:

  • Recognise, evaluate and manage health and safety hazards in the workplace
  • Administer various work health and safety functions, planning and policy and process development in the workplace
  • Communicate effectively with personnel at all levels of the organisation
  • Developing actions, interventions and measures to prevent re-occurrences of incidents
  • Achieving change in WHS matters
  • Gather and analyse relevant WHS information and data
  • Contribute to the implementation, review and improvement of the WHS plan and WHS management system

Participants are encouraged to bring along their laptop computer or iPad to assist with the assessment process, however it is not a requirement.

Course Delivery Method

Face-to-Face five (5) day course: This course is conducted from Monday to Friday commencing at 8.30am and runs for approximately seven (7) hours each day. This program includes a variety of training and assessment methods including projects, case studies, written and oral questioning and self-paced study (the self paced study includes nine (9) units to be completed within twelve (12) months of attendance of the five day course). The cost of this course is $1,895.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Diploma Courses - RPL Application fee: $1,495. Upon receipt of payment, a confirmation email will be sent with the RPL Kit attached for completion. This documentation must be completed and submitted within 2 months of booking. Once your RPL application is received, an assessor will evaluate it. The assessor will then contact you for a face-to-face meeting to discuss their findings and clarify any other issues. For more information on the RPL process, please contact our office.

UNIQUE STUDENT IDENTIFIER: Each participant enrolling in a course will need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number to obtain their certificate or qualification when studying  nationally recognised training in Australia. A USI gives you access to your online USI account which will help keep all your training records together. Certificates and Statements of Attainment cannot be issued without this number.
