Traffic Management Implementation - RIIWHS302D (formerly Traffic Management Level 2)

This course is aimed at persons required to read, interpret, and implement traffic management plans and install / remove signs and devices in accordance with procedures set out in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices Part 3 (MUTCD) while ensuring traffic flow is maintained and safety of the public is maximised.

Entry Requirements

Participants must supply:

  • White Card (Construction Safety Induction Card)
  • Current Drivers Licence

Course Content

This course comprises of the following:

  • Plan and prepare to implement traffic management plan/s
  • With the selected traffic guidance scheme, be able to:
    • set out
    • monitor
    • close down
    • clean up
  • Access and apply site safety procedures
  • Apply personal and operational safety measures
  • Maintain personal wellbeing
  • Identify and report incidents
  • Plan and prepare for workplace communication and communicate using equipment and systems
  • Carry out face-to-face routine communication
  • Complete written documentation

Course Delivery Method

Part 1:   Face-to-face approximately eight (8) hours theoretical training and assessment.  The theoretical classes are held every second Tuesday. An open book written assessment focusing on the participant's ability to read and interpret the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices Part 3 (MUTCD).   Participants must complete all of the activities within the participant activity/assessment booklet and a minimum of two simulated in-class setups.  These activities and assessments are to be completed throughout the course on the day as a formative assessment process.

Upon successful completion of the eight (8) hour training course, participants will be issued with a "Statement of Attendance".

Part 2:    Practical Assessment on live job-sites - To be completed after the eight (8) hour training session.   Participants are required to produce documented evidence of 3 separate signage setups of varying complexity on live job-sites. For example: detour, shoulder work, merge lane closure, contra-flow (part road closure), frequently changing work site, mobile works etc.)  One of these setups must include controlling site construction vehicles.  These setups must be completed in accordance with the MUTCD and submitted to Pro-System Training Services for assessment within three (3) months of attending Part 1 of this course.

A signed Third Party Report from a manager/supervisor confirming the participant's knowledge and skills is also required to be completed and submitted with the above documented evidence. This will be supplied to all participants in Part 1 of the training.

Upon successful completion of the practical component of this course, participants will be issued with a "Statement of Attainment" and a wallet-sized ID card.  The cost of this course is $330.
